FSSS Spring - How Does Your Garden Grow - Altered Cigar Box

Once I decided I wanted to use this sweet little Gorjuss Girl Image I knew what I was going to do to alter the box.

Is she not darling!

Enjoy!

Altered Cigar Box - FSSS How Does Your Garden Grow April 2014

This is a little cigar box I've altered for the Spring Swap over on FSSS.

"How Does Your Garden Grow"

I crackle finished the box which originally had basket weave insets where the Prima Fairy Belle Paper Panels now are.
Then I created a little shadow box from card stock and adhered it to the lid. Cute eh? I fussy cut flowers and butterflies from the same paper pack and then added a little gorgeous girl on a log on top. In the original image there is only one chick but I created two more just because they are cute. She is thinking about the question "How does your garden grow". I went in with some water colour and kicked up the colours a bit. She also has vellum wings. I've applied some light antique white and gesso combo to the edges of the paper. I used an MS edge punch along the outer edges for the box frame. The box is filled with hand made flowers both fabric and paper. I've placed flat back pearls at intervals along the punched edge since these pics. LOVE!

Enjoy!

Prima Doll Tag - FSSS How Does Your Garden Grow April 2014

"How Does Your Garden Grow"

I created an armoire following Bona's technique from Youtube.
The doll is one of the first released Prima Dolls by Julie Nutting.
Love how she turned out. I used Prima Fairy Bell Paper for the entire thing fussy cutting the flowers and popping them up for dimension. I've used three layers of laces on the left side of the tag. Tag measures 9 x 4 ish. The wings are vellum with gesso. Various flowers both from silk sprays and paper - various mfg. The little yellow nubs are from a candle wreath. Love this little nubs. A pearl trim and some flat backs also pull in the shine and colour. The inside of the armoire is lined with papers from the line as well And I finished the back of the tag. Had so much fun creating this tag. I hope my FSSS swappin' sissy loves it as much as I do.

Enjoy!

Terra Cotta Pot - Altered

This little creation using the Terra Cotta Pot Silhouette.com cut file and my Cameo is part of the requirements of the Spring Swap over on FSSS Facebook Group - Alter a flower pot. Since there are no flower pots available for purchase here in this two horse town until May, I resorted to building my own from terra cotta coloured card stock.

"How Does Your Garden Grow"

I cut the file using my Silhouette, then constructed it - two layers. Then I hot glued a circle inside so the "stuff" would not show through the hole in the bottom. I then hot glued some florist foam to the bottom once I cut it to fit using a kitchen bread knife. Then I inked some french novel paper using Tim Holtz distress inks in Vintage Photo, Frayed Burlap and Antique Linen. Then I used my fringe scissors to cut the strips, wadded them up and glued to the top of the foam. Then I took some eggs off of an easter spray and hot glued them in place. Then the bird. Next I used a couple of punches and created the flowers using Prima Fairy Bell paper pack. The flower centres are some DIY enamel dots I made from pony beads. I have a Youtube Vid showing how that's done. Then I took two long white wrapped florist wires and folded nearly in half leaving the long ends to wrap around the "stem".  I then cut the two resulting loops in varying lengths for stems. (I should have taken pics. I'll do another of these and do a tut on it.) I then attached just one more length of wire wrapping for a fifth stem. I inserted the wire stems into the foam and hot glued for stability. The flowers around the bottom edge of the pot are fussy cut from Prima Fairy Bell paper as well. Easy Peasy.

Enjoy!

Terra Cotta Pot From Textured Cardstock

I cut this with my Cameo and constructed it. Two layers. Silhouette.com cut file.
Watch for my next post of the finished altered pot for my FSSS partner -

Tsk Tsk Tardy!

I have not posted to this blog since August of 2013. That is about the time I started my two secret groups on Facebook. They have gobbled up most of my creative time and I am thinking it's time I paid a little more attention to my blog. Happy to find it still here and not deleted!

There will be a flurry of post for a little while as I play catch up ball and then I will be posting again with regularity!

Rainy Day Visitor

This little hummingbird often rests beneath our honeysuckle, where I've cut away some branches, on a rainy day. The ever so tiny darling fluffs and primps it's dampened feathers often darting out from it's resting place to sip nectar from the honeysuckle blossoms, then darts back until sufficiently nourished, rested and dry. Then as quick as a wink it's gone! I managed to snap this pic during one of it's rest stops. Once while I was watching through my camera lens it darted up, hovered right before my snoot checking out the camera and darted directly back to sip more nectar. I believe it recognizes I am no threat. On another occasion I was within two feet and the little fellow was busily sipping from one of the bell shaped flowers, when suddenly it turned 180 degrees, hovering while it sized me up and abruptly turned 180 back to the flower and continued hovering and sipping. Is there any doubt it has become accustomed to my curiosity?

Altered Paint Brush 0ne to One Swap!

Altered Paint Brush. I bought a cheap paint brush at Walmart. There were little teeny nails holding the metal collar in place, which I first loosened with a stiff metal paint scraper. When they started to come up and I lifted them out. The metal and bristles weren't off yet. It was harder than I expected, to get off, because it was glued in with epoxy but I found the end of the metal band where it had been folded over and undid that fold with some flat nose pliers. Then pulled a bit and it came away. The brush part fell right out. So then I was left with that metal band and decided after much struggle, that it would just be easier to create a band. I did that using the old band for a template and once chipboard was cut I wet it and it wrapped easily. I marked the first two holes using some gesso on the holes but then discovered on the last two that I just needed to "drill" holes using my aul and a small hammer and then just tap the wee nails in. So, there you have it. It's drying now and then I'll go forward with the idea I have noodling in my wee brain.

Tea bag roses!

How incredibly sweet are these little roses! I made them from the used tea bags of my favourite tea. It's Numi Ruby Chai Organic Spiced Rooibos. The warm spicy combination of fragrant ginger, cardomom, allspice, nutmeg, cinnamon and cloves stands up well to milk. It's fair trade certified and I'm reusing the fabulously tea stained bags and recycling the box. No waste. Even the used tea has a use. I save it and put it in my garden. Roses love tea. How chic is that? All this takes time, but how better to spend mine than working with the most fragrant tea on the planet.

These little roses are so simple to make but first you must drink some tea. Once the bag has cooled enough to handle you can remove the little staple, open the bag carefully along the seam and release the tea into a vessel. Rinse the used bag of all remnants of tea and set on a counter or paper towel to dry. Once dry I cut them in half lengthwise, fold and begin rolling and gluing as I go with Scotch Quick-Dry Adhesive. The resulting wee treasures are simply delightful. Enjoy!

Lace roll bits and snits sneaky peaky.

"Lace roll, you had me at shabby"
I'm stitching the layers and most of the elements on this lace roll. It's my first and definitely not my last. I'm so full of joy to when I'm working with these satins and laces. Girly girl? Yeah that'd be me. I'm doing a vid as I create and at some point in the not-too-distant future I'll post that to my Youtube channel. Watch for updates. Enjoy!

Tsumani Rose Designs DT Challenge #21- Theme: Cards - May 22nd

I created this card using Daisy Collins' printables. Cropping, resizing
and printing three copies on white card stock provided me with enough
materials to fussy cut the butterfly twice making it three layers. I also fussy
cut an extra wild rose floral sprig to add dimension. Three inks were used to colourize
the background and bottle images. The butterfly was coloured with copics. I adhered
the butterfly just at the body so that it would pop. Inking the paper doily made it
more of a textural element. The string pearls, pearl edge trim together
with the single pearl element in the lower left corner helped tie it all together.
The sentiment was also from the same printable.

How 'bout this cute little tomato!

I shopped for the fabric for this sweet little tomato until I found just the right stuff. And felt for the tuft on top. I love the way it turned out. All sewn on my painfully small battery operated craft sewing maching by Regal. I have done a lot of sewing in my day, from sweats to windbreakers, quilts to brides maids dresses, baby sleepers and even my own jeans. But never on such a tiny toy of a machine. Felt like I was sewing with no speed control and one hand tied behind my back. Makes me think it might just be time to refurbish my trusty old singer and revisit my sewing talents. How FUN! Enjoy!
